The Best of Brought To Life - 036

1. SLIME - 'Linke Spießer' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  LP - Germany - 1983
Opening track from 'Alle Gegen Alle', their 3rd album. After this, Stephan Mahler (drummer / lyricist) went on to join Torpedo Moskau. Here's how it sounded 27 years later.
2. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Myage' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
From their first album 'Milo Goes To College'. This, the opening track, sets a high standard which rarely lets up. Expect more tracks later.
3. FEAR - 'Camarillo' - Slash LP - USA - 1982
'Sanitarium! Electro-shockium! Disciplinary correctional surgery!' Menacing track from the first Fear album about the famed Camarillo mental hospital. I wonder which one of 'em had been there?
4. TARGETS - 'Nie Wieder Krieg' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  7" - Germany - 1984
After Slime split, Eddie and Elf went on to form this band who released 2 great E.P.s and a half studio / half live LP which wasn't quite as good. This track is from the 2nd E.P. 'Menschenjagd'.
5. THE ADICTS - 'Steamroller (My Baby Got Run Over By A)' - Fallout 7" - UK - 1982
On the B-side of 'Viva La Revolution'. 'I didn't get the number, as she was going under, it was a case of hit and run!' Chuckle.
6. NEWTOWN NEUROTICS - 'Licensing Hours' - CNT 7" - UK - 1982
Their 4th single and probably the last of their classics. From the time when UK pubs could only open for set periods of time. Dark days indeed.
7. THE MINUTEMEN - 'Tension' - SST MLP - USA - 1981
From their excellent first 12" 'The Punch Line'. Everyone talks about it being their first full length LP when in fact the 18 tracks only last around 15 minutes. They were called The Minutemen for a reason.
8. THE DESCENDENTS - 'I Wanna Be A Bear' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Another from 'Milo Goes To College'. Vintage footage here.
9. FEAR - 'I Don't Care About You' - Slash LP - USA - 1982
Another from 'The Record'. Classic 'Decline' footage here.
10. ADAM AND THE ANTS - 'Zerox' - Do It 7" - UK - 1979
2nd single, about manufactured popstars. I'll sidestep the irony as Adam at least created his own image(s).
11. TARGETS - 'Der Teufel Hat Den Schnaps Gemacht' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  7" - Germany - 1984
Another belter from the 'Menschenjagd' E.P. which is the old, old 'got drunk, hooked up with a tranny' tale. Sounds quite fresh in German though.
12. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Suburban Home' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Another from 'Milo Goes To College'. 'I don't want no hippy pad, I want a house just like mom and dad!'
13. ADAM AND THE ANTS - 'Ligotage' - Peel Sesssion - UK - 1979
One from Adam's early bondage era.
14. SLIME - 'Störtebeker' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  LP - Germany - 1983
Best track from 'Alle Gegen Alle', with a brilliant chorus, about a Robin Hood-style German pirate. Look it up.
15. FEAR - 'Foreign Policy' - Slash LP - USA - 1982
Patriotic hogwash or a scathing attack on the U.S. government? The track that made me 'get' them.
16. THE MINUTEMEN - 'The Punch Line' - SST MLP - USA - 1981
From the record with the same name. 'Quilled like a porcupine with indian arrows'. Ouch!
17. TARGETS - 'Freund Oder Fiend' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  7" - Germany - 1984
From their 1st E.P. 'Schneller, Lauter, Härter' ('Faster, louder, harder' for those not fluent in German).
18. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Marriage' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Another from 'Milo Goes To College'.
19. NEWTOWN NEUROTICS - 'No Sanctuary' - CNT 7" - UK - 1982
Flipside of 'Licensing Hours'. Parental tension. We've all been there.
20. ADAM AND THE ANTS - 'Whip In My Valise' - Do It 7" - UK - 1979
Flipside of 'Zerox'. S&M territory once more. 'When an old lady got hit by a truck, I saw that wicked gleam in your eye'.
21. FEAR - 'I Love Living In The City' - Slash LP - USA - 1982
A fourth from 'The Record'. And of course you need the 'Decline' footage here.
22. SLIME - 'Alle Gegen Alle' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  LP - Germany - 1983
Another from the album of the same name.
23. TARGETS - 'Geld Regiert Die Welt' - Aggressive Rockproduktionen  7" - Germany - 1984
Another from 'Schneller, Lauter, Härter'. 'Money rules the world'. Sure does.
24. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Bikeage' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Last one from 'Milo'. So sad it brings a tear to my eye.
25. FEAR 'No More Nothing' - Slash LP - USA - 1982
And to end, yet another from 'The Record'.
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. THE DESCENDENTS - 'I'm Not A Punk'
27. SLIME - 'Religion'
28. THE DESCENDENTS - 'I Don't Wanna Grow Up'
29. THE TARGETS - 'Menschenjagd'
30. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Silly Girl'
31. FEAR - 'Null Detector'
