The Best of Brought To Life - 140

1. INFERNO - 'Hibakusha' - Rise And Fall LP - Germany - 1986
O.K. - we'll start with a thrasher - the title track from the album of the same name. More developed than their earlier stuff but not quite metal. Available on the 'Pioneering Work' CDs.
2. NO MEANS NO - 'The Day Everything Became Nothing' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - Canada - 1988
A live favourite of mine and quite a treat on record too. From a 6-track E.P. of the same name.
3. THEE MILKSHAKES - 'Seven Days' - Big Beat LP - UK - 1982
From 'Fourteen Rhythm & Beat Greats'. Pretty much the Kinks re-incarnated.
4. THE QUADS - 'There Must Be Thousands' - Big Bear 7" - UK - 1979
Their debut single. Of course I hated mods at the time but, hey, I was young and foolish.
5. THE FIRST STEPS - 'Anywhere Else But Here' - English Rose 7" - UK - 1980
From their second E.P.  Dig the handclaps.
6. THE SODS - 'Mopey Grope' - Tap 7" - UK - 1979
Second single. Very different to the first. Read more at Bored Teenagers.
7. THE MANDARINES - 'Trust You' - Harvest 7" - Sweden - 1978
More mainstream than the usual Swedish releases on here but the dual m/f vocals work a treat. From their second and final E.P.
8. BRIARD - 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' - Love 7" - Finland - 1979
Silly cover version time again. This was their third of four singles.
9. THE STRIPES - 'Tell Me Your Name' - CBS 7" - Germany - 1980
Another third single, from Hagen in Germany.
10. SENSUURI - 'Kirjoitan Seinaan' - Poko 7" - Finland - 1979
And back to a debut. The writing was on the wall.
11. THE NEW HEARTS - 'Plain Jane' - CBS 7" - UK - 1978
Second single. You could almost hear them transforming into Secret Affair.
12. THE BARRACUDAS - 'I Want My Woody Back' - Cells 7" - UK - 1979
The 'Woody' in question is a car with lots of wood panelling incorporated into the bodywork. Favoured by many surfers. This debut 7" confused us all.
13. THE DAZZLERS - 'Phonies' - Charisma 7" - UK - 1978
This debut however was much more straightforward.
14. NO MEANS NO - 'Dead Souls' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - Canada - 1988
The fast one from 'The Day Everything Became Nothing'.
15. THEE MILKSHAKES - 'Black Sails (In The Moonlight)' - Big Beat LP - UK - 1982
Another from 'Fourteen Rhythm & Beat Greats'.
16. VAAVI - 'R.A.R.F.' - Johanna 7" - Finland - 1980
One from their 1980 E.P.  I have no idea what it means. Rock Against something or other.
17. DA BIZ - 'This Is No Audition' - Small Operations 7" - UK - 1980
The flipside of 'On The Beach'. It was picked up by Sire before sinking without trace.
18. THE HEAD - 'Sounds Like Sounds' - Demo - UK - 1981
I forgot to add this to a previous comp. Silly me.
19. NO MEANS NO - 'Theresa, Give Me That Knife' - Alternative Tentacles LP - Canada - 1988
A frantic effort from third album 'Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed'.
20. INFERNO - 'Ein Glücklicher Narr' - Rise and Fall LP - Germany - 1986
Another track from 'Hibakusha'.
21. THE BUCKS - 'That Kind Of Oh-Oh-Oh!' - Flaterfonia 7" - Switzerland - 1980
The superior flipside of debut single 'Avoid The Barracuda'. I doubt they had a Woody.
22. THE X-RIPPERS - 'Four Inch' - Demo - UK - 1979
I'm just guessing at the year, but it's taken from a Retro Records CD release. All about having an average-sized dick.
23. PHIL 'N' THE BLANKS - 'Auto Sex' - Pink 7" - USA - 1980
Debut sinle, from Chicago, Illinois.
24. SE - 'N.Y.T.' - Love 7" - Finland - 1978
Another debut single. The first (and best) of TEN.
25. THE BARRACUDAS - 'Subway Surfin' - Cells 7" - UK - 1979
The flipside of 'Woody'. Grab your surfboards and if you aint got a beach . . .
