The Best of Brought To Life - 166

1. THE CRAMPS - 'The Most Exalted Potentate Of Love' -

The opening track and stand-out cut from 'Smell Of Female'. Enjoy the definitive Cramps video here.
2. THE ABRASIVE WHEELS - 'Army Song' - Abrasive 7" - UK - 1981
The rabble-rousing classic from '81 that got them a deal with Riot City.
3. THE FAVOURITES - 'On My Mind' - Demo - UK - 1979
Released on the impossible-to-find Low Down Kids album 'S.O.S.'
4. THE DARK - 'Einstein's Brain' - Fresh 7" - UK - 1981
Their third single. Every one of 'em had a distinctly different sound.
5. THE RAMONES - 'Rock 'n' Roll High School' - Sire 7" - USA - 1979
Much better than the 'End Of The Century' version. Enjoy the party from the film of the same name.
6. THE SCENE - 'Hey Girl' - Hole In The Wall 7" - UK - 1980
Unashamed '60s/mod revival. Their sole single.
7. THE RADIO STARS - 'From A Rabbit' - Chiswick 7" - UK - 1978
Their fourth single. There was a 6" version which annoyed the hell out of everyone as you lost it in your record collection and you were forced to stick the needle on it manually. Madness, I tell you!

One from his 'Down The Shore' original soundtrack LP.
9. RED RAGE - 'Total Control' - Flicknife 7" - UK - 1980

From the flipside of 'Army Song'.
15. CHAOTIC SUBVERSION - 'Dead Meat' - Looney Tunes 7" - UK - 1989
From the 'No Frontiers' international compilation E.P.  Originally it was scheduled for release on my Real World label but the taxman put an end to that and Looney Tunes kindly agreed to release it instead.
16. THE PILLS - 'Hollywood Doll' - Self-Released 12" - USA - 1980
This 4-song E.P. was their sole release. From Tucson Arizona. The influences are obvious.
17. THE DARK - 'On The Wires' - Fresh 7" - UK - 1981
Their fourth single. Yet again, a slight departure from their previous efforts.
18. THE FAVOURITES - 'S.O.S.' - 4-Play 7" - UK - 1979
Their debut single. ABBA covers usually work a treat.

The Best of Brought To Life - 162

1. 'O' LEVEL - 'Everybody's On Revolver Tonight' - Kings Road 7" - UK - 1978
From 'The Malcolm E.P'. - their second effort.   'Six o'clock they said they'd call, so I dyed my hair bright red, but they must have gone without me so now I must go to bed'. They don't write 'em like that anymore. They also reference the TVPs which is hardly surprising since this record sounds so much like them.
2. THE UNTAMED - 'Black Heart' - Real World 7" - UK - 1988
I myself bashed this one out by our local heroes of the mid-'80s. Nice riffage by Richie Thunders. Recorded in a pig pen, I shit you not! They were a great live band that never got the credit they deserved. The only other thing they released was the flexi-disc which was given away with '10 Years On' issue #7. All you'll find on the 'net about them is probably here.
3. THE FAST - 'Boys Will Be Boys' - CBS 7" - USA - 1976
The debut single by another underrated band. Here's what they were like live.
4. STUDENT NURSE - 'Encounter' - Rug 12" - USA - 1980
The opening track from their second record, 'As Seen On TV,' a 1-sided 12" E.P.  Remember those?

The flipside of debut single 'Getting Lost'.

Their third single.

Another track from 'As Seen On T.V.'  And here's what you could have seen.

There were lots of bands called the Reactors. This lot were from Austin, Texas. The flipside of sole single 'It's Not Important'.

Another goodie from 'The Malcolm E.P.'
17. QUINCY - 'Can't Live In A Dream' - CBGB 7" - USA - 1978
Their debut single. The rest were a bit lightweight for me.

The flipside of 'More Than Once'.
19. MANUAL SCAN - 'American Way' - Dance and Stance 7" - USA - 1983

8. THE POGUES - 'White City' - WEA LP - UK - 1989
Somehow they had to follow the excellent 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God'. They tried a few different styles on 'Peace And Love' with uneven results. This, one of the high points, was also a single.

A second track from their eponymous album.
