The Best of Brought To Life - 089

1. DEAD KENNEDYS - 'Religious Vomit' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - USA - 1981
The opening track from 'In God We Trust, Inc.' - the 8-song E.P. they released in between the first two albums. Live version from 1984 here.
2. DAG NASTY - 'Values Here' - Dischord LP - USA - 1986
The opening track from 'Can I Say', a Dischord classic.
3. THE PINCHERS - 'Rape Her' - Color 7" - Belgium - 1981
The flipside of sole single 'Tonight'. It appears on 'Bloodstains Across Belgium Volume 2' but has never been blogged, possibly due to the offensive title. I can't work out the lyrics so I'm unsure of the context, but let me know if you've got them or know any more.
4. THE LADS - 'Neighborhood Kids' - UNR LP - USA - 1983
Opening track from sole album 'Out From The Shadows'.
5. THE DICKIES - 'Banana Splits' - A&M 7" - USA - 1979
5th single, and yet another cover version, this time of the Banana Splits TV show Theme. Fun promo video here.
6. THE SYSTEM - '60 Watt Pearl' - MCA 7" - UK - 1981
Sole single by a band containing 3 ex-Steve Gibbons Band members.
7. SLOPPY SECONDS - 'Take You Home' - Toxic Shock LP - USA - 1989
From the debut album 'Destroyed' from '89, though its heart lay much earlier. Live in 2010 here.
8. DEAD KENNEDYS - 'Nazi Punks Fuck Off!' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - USA - 1981
Another from 'In God We Trust, Inc.' though it also came out as a 7" on Subterranean. Live in London here.
9. RON MILLER - 'Sick And Tired' - Second Culture 12" - USA - 1986
The flipside of 'Till The End'. Love the vocal effects and tribal drums.
10. THE DICKIES - 'Got It At The Store' - A&M 7" - USA - 1979
One from the flipside of 'Banana Splits'.
11. THE DIDJITS - 'Shavehead Monkey Duster' - Self-released cassette - USA - 1985
From their third self-released cassette 'Signifies My Go-T'. Does anyone have 'Whoop My Head' or 'Durga! Durga! Durga!'?
12. SLOPPY SECONDS - 'Veronica' - Toxic Shock LP - USA - 1989
Another from debut album 'Destroyed'.
13. DAG NASTY - 'What Now?' - Dischord LP - USA - 1986
Another from 'Can I Say'.
14. DEAD KENNEDYS - 'Moral Majority' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - USA - 1981
Another from 'In God We Trust, Inc.'
15. THE DICKIES - 'Waterslide' - A&M 7" - USA - 1979
And the flipside of sixth single 'Nights In White Satin', which isn't as dramatic as some of their other covers, but OK, here's the video.
16. (Charged) G.B.H. - 'No Survivors' - Clay 7" - UK - 1982
First single but second record after the 'Leather, Bristles, Studs and Acne' Mini-LP.
17. SLOPPY SECONDS - 'The Candyman' - Toxic Shock LP - USA - 1989
Another from 'Destroyed'. It's a cover from the 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' film and I remember them chucking marshmallows onto the dance floor when I saw them play it back in the day. There's nothing quite like grit-covered candy!
18. DEAD KENNEDYS - 'Dog Bite' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - USA - 1981
Another from 'In God We Trust, Inc.' Here's a video of original session that was lost when the tape reel was compromised.
19. CRASS - 'Rival Tribal Rebel Revel' - 7" Flexi-disc - UK - 1980
These were given away with anarcho fanzine 'Toxic Grafitti', but there's also a rarer hard vinyl version with the same song on both sides.
20. THE DICKIES - 'Gigantor' - A&M 7" - USA - 1980
9th single. Another TV theme, this time from a cartoon about a super-powered Japanese robot. Here's what I mean.
21. DEAD KENNEDYS - 'Kepone Factory' - Alternative Tentacles 12" - USA - 1981
A fifth from 'In God We Trust, Inc.'
22. THE DIDJITS - 'Jerry Lee' - Bam Bam LP - USA - 1986
The opening track from their debut album 'Fizzjob'. 'We went over to Jerry's house and we did a little acid, we watched him kill one of his wives, we didn't care, we were so high'. An insight into the crazed mind of Rick Simms.
23. SLOPPY SECONDS - 'Blackmail' - Toxic Shock LP - USA - 1989
Another from 'Destroyed'. 'Well, your father's in Bermuda, and the milkman's overjoyed, your maid is into bondage, and I've got Polaroids!'
24. THE SPECIALS - 'Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think)' - Two-Tone LP - UK - 1980
Opening track from second album 'More Specials'. Live version here.
25. THE DICKIES - 'Manny, Moe And Jack' - A&M 7" - USA - 1979
And finally, their 8th single, the first not to be issued in coloured vinyl. Some kind of promo madness here.
