The Best of Brought To Life - 049

1. THE ADICTS - 'How Sad' - Razor LP - UK - 1982
Fairground music sliced into by a punk rock riff and some cutting humour. 'A boy loved a girl but the girl said no, she ran away with a handsome gigolo, he loved her but they were through so he fed himself to the lions at the zoo!' If only they could have kept it up for the whole album.
2. X-RAY SPEX - 'Art-I-ficial' - EMI LP - UK - 1978
Expect a few tracks here from the classic album 'Germ-Free Adolescents'. That they couldn't stick together for much longer was a travesty of epic proportion. 'I wanna be instamatic, I wanna be a frozen peeeeeeeeeea, I wannna be dehydrated in a consumer society.' Slightly uncomfortable Old Grey Whistle Test appearance here.
3. THE STURGEONS - 'Punk Rock Virgins' - Social Blemish 7" - Canada - 1980
Their sole release, though I'm sure I've got a load of demos lying around somewhere. Nice to be able to rhyme the song with the name of the band.
4. THE NERVEBREAKERS - 'Stand Up' - Demo - USA - 1980
This was to be a track on their unreleased album which finally saw the light of day in 1994 on Existential Vaccuum and the next year on Get Hip.
5. THE LEFT - 'Youngster On The Force' - Bona Fide 12" - USA - 1984
From the 'Hell, It's The World' 12" E.P. Solid, honest, in your face punk rock.
6. CONTROLE - 'Angry' - Demo - France - 1978
An angry young female-fronted punk band from the late '70s. If they ever released a record then someone wants to mention it on the 'net. This was eventually released on a tacky Skydog compilation. No-doubt they always had the demos but didn't bother utilizing them until the band had long since split.
7. PRIVATE VICES - 'Paris '84' - Demo - France - 1978
Another from the Skydog comp. that should have been released earlier.
8. THE NERVEBREAKERS - 'How Can You Tell?' - Demo - USA - 1980
Another from their unreleased (at the time) album.
9. TRIO - 'Da Da Da' - Mercury 7" - Germany - 1982
Although the full title is somewhat longer, this song became a worldwide hit for this German (you guessed it) trio back in '82. Some of their stuff was almost punk rock y'know. Their drummer, apparently, was recruited out of clown school. You couldn't make it up.
10. X-RAY SPEX - 'Obsessed With You' - EMI LP - UK - 1978
Another belter from 'Germ-Free Adolescents'. 'You are just a concept, you are just a dream, you're just a reflection of the new regime'.
11. THE INNOCENTS - 'Back Seat Of My Car' - Boardwalk LP - USA - 1982
Catchy little track from their sole LP, though it's not quite the best song of that name ever recorded.
12. THE ADICTS - 'Lullaby' - Razor LP - UK - 1982
Another from 'Sound Of Music'. 'Is your head aching, is your body weak, is the floor moving, can't you speak?'  We've all been there.
13. DENTIST - 'So So' - Demo - France - 1978
Another rip-roaring 1978 French demo. This time they were all released on a Mémoire Neuve LP in 2009. From Nice.
14. THE LEFT - 'Fuck It' - Bona Fide 12" - USA - 1984
Another from 'Hell, It's The World'.
15. THE NERVEBREAKERS - 'My Girlfriend Is A Rock' - Demo - USA - 1980
Another from their unreleased (at the time) album. Different to the version on the first E.P.
16. PRIVATE VICES - 'Total Control' - Demo - France - 1978
Another of their 1978 demos from the Skydog comp.
17. X-RAY SPEX - 'I Live Off You' - EMI LP - UK - 1978
A third bittersweet classic from 'Germ-Free Adolescents'. 'See, we gotta be exploited, by somebody'.
18. TRIO - 'Ja Ja Wo Gehts Lank Peter Plank Schönen Dank' - Mercury LP - Germany - 1981
From their debut LP. Surprised? Didn't you believe me? You can even see it live.
19. THE CRAMPS - 'Save It' - IRS 12" - USA - 1981
On the flipside of 'The Crusher', a Mel Robbins cover from 1959.
20. ABJECT - 'Regard Sur L'apres Midi' - Demo - France - 1978
Another French demo, again from Nice. May as well unload them all on one CD.
21. CALCINATOR - 'Électrifié' - FLVM 7" - France - 1978
This one was actually released on a 7" - the flipside of 'Billard'.
22. CONTROLE - '77' - Demo - France - 1978
Another raw-sounding French demo track. Why didn't someone give them a record?
23. X-RAY SPEX - 'Genetic Engineering' - EMI LP - UK - 1978
A fourth from 'Germ-Free Adolescents'.
24. THE LEFT - 'Frontline' - Bona Fide 12" - USA - 1984
A third from 'Hell, It's The World'.
25. DENTIST - 'Final Chaos' - Demo - France - 1978
And a fine, chaotic way to end the sampler.
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. X-RAY SPEX - 'Let's Submerge'
27. THE NERVEBREAKERS - 'Girls Girls Girls Girls Girls'
28. X-RAY SPEX - 'Identity'
