The Best of Brought To Life - 371

1. PELLE MILJOONA & N.U.S. - 'Olen Työtön'
'S/T' - Love LP - Finland - 1978
A song about life on the dole from Pelle's first ever album. Also released as a single.
2. BASCZAX - 'Hollywood Strut'
'Terminal Madness' - Animated Tapes cassette - UK - 1979
Only 50 copies were ever made of this so good luck if you ever need to find one.
3. CHAOS UK - 'Happy Spaztik'
'One Hundred Per Cent Two Fingers In The Air Punk Rock' - Slap Up MLP - UK - 1993
Great title. Much preferred their '90s stuff to their '80s.
4. BUZZCOCKS - 'Totally From The Heart'
'All Set' - IRS LP - UK - 1996
The follow up to 'Trade Test Transmissions' which starts off well enough but just aint as consistent.
5. DEATH SIDE - 'Break The Brain'
'Game Of Death' - Slice LP - Japan - 1989
I received many angry e-mails about the lack of Death Side tracks on the last compilation. Sorry folks, dunno what I was thinking. This is from a comp. LP with lesser bands Poison Arts, Final Bombs and Ghoul.
6. BASCZAX - 'Ego Therapy'
Demo - UK - 1979
Inferior live version on 'Check It Out' here.
7. PELLE MILJOONA & N.U.S. - 'Mä Vaan Pogoon'
'S/T' - Love LP - Finland - 1978
8. CHAOS UK - 'A Swindle'

9. THE LAST RESORT - 'Rebels With A Cause'
'A Way Of Life - Skinhead Anthems' - Last Resort LP - UK - 1982
Another day another night, another drink another fight. Never had much time for skinhead stuff, too much senseless violence against what was usually the wrong enemy.
10. BASCZAX - 'Success'
'Terminal Madness' - Animated Tapes cassette - UK - 1979
11. DEATH SIDE - 'Blutes'
'Game Of Death' - Slice LP - Japan - 1989
Your guess is as good as mine.

'One Hundred Per Cent Two Fingers In The Air Punk Rock' - Slap Up MLP - UK - 1993
22. BASCZAX - '1999'
'Terminal Madness' - Animated Tapes cassette - UK - 1979
23. THE LAST RESORT - 'Violence In Our Minds'
'A Way Of Life - Skinhead Anthems' - Last Resort LP - UK - 1982
I was walking down the road with a dozen pals of mine, looking for some aggro, just to pass the time. Yup, that about covers it.
24. PELLE MILJOONA & N.U.S. - 'Mie En Välitä Mistään'
'S/T' - Love LP - Finland - 1978
25. BUZZCOCKS - 'Your Love'
'All Set' - IRS LP - UK - 1996
26. BASCZAX - 'Influence Invasion'

Here's a terrible (visual) quality YouTube snippet, the audio however is better quality and very very funny.

The Best of Brought To Life - 369

1. BLOOD OR WHISKEY - 'Bucharest'
'S/T' - Rejected LP - Ireland - 1996
From their classic debut album. 'There was a 4-piece band, the biggest in the land, I heard the crowd call out for more, it was clear to me, anyone could tell, that they had nothing to say, but they said it so well'.  Guess who.

The Best of Brought To Life - 367

1. DISCHARGE - 'The Possibility Of Life's Destruction'
'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing' - Clay LP - UK - 1982
1982 was a good year for Discharge with this seminal album and a B-side which blew away most of what everyone else attempted that year. It quickly went downhill after that, but at least they're still at it and treading a more familiar path these days.
2. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Liian Nuori'
'S/T' - Beta LP - Finland - 1984
A cool E.P., this great album and then nothing until a 3-track 7" appeared 21 years later. What were they doing?
3. KRUNCH - 'Fabrik'
'När Varje Dag Är Ett Snesteg' - Spunk cassette - Sweden - 1984
The mighty Krunch before committing to vinyl.
4. THE LYNCH MOB - 'Naughty Girl'
Single - Long View 7" - USA - 1981
Their only release, from Wormtown, Massachussets. Pat Lynch, the singer, is rumoured to be the father of James Lynch from the Dropkick Murphys for those of you interested in such things.
5. BUZZCOCKS - 'Oh Shit'
Flipside of 'What Do I Get?' - UA 7" - UK - 1978
And there's a nice demo version here.

6. EMPIRE - 'Him Or Me'
'Expensive Sound' - Dinosaur Discs LP - UK - 1981
Derwood's next project after he left Generation X. At the time, I didn't think this was much better than 'Valley Of The Dolls' but at least he was attempting to break new ground.
7. THE POP GROUP - 'We Are All Prostitutes'
Single - Rough Trade 7" - UK - 1979
'Everyone has their price and you too will learn to live the lie'.
8. KRUNCH - 'Där Hoppet Finns Är Plågan Värst'
'När Varje Dag Är Ett Snesteg' - Spunk cassette - Sweden - 1984
Another track from their first demo.
9. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Vanhuus'
'S/T' - Beta LP - Finland - 1984
A song about old age. Whether it's a lament or a piss-take, I really don't know.
10. DISCHARGE - 'I Won't Subscribe'
'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing' - Clay LP - UK - 1982
11. THE WANNADIES - 'New World Record'
'Be A Girl' - Snap CD - Sweden - 1994
My experience with The Wannadies is probably unique. I didn't think much of any of their songs until this, their third album. And the next two just got better and better.
12. MINUTEMEN - 'CCCP'
Demo - USA - 1980
Recorded on an Econo Cassette Machine in Frank Tonche's House. Available on the 'Georgeless' E.P.
13. KRUNCH - 'Glöd'

'Expensive Sound' - Dinosaur Discs LP - UK - 1981
18. THE WANNADIES - 'Might Be Stars'
'Be A Girl' - Snap CD - Sweden - 1994
There's a video for this one but I hate the damn thing.
19. KRUNCH - 'Ventil'
'När Varje Dag Är Ett Snesteg' - Spunk cassette - Sweden - 1984
20. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Tänään Täällä Huomenna Poissa'
'S/T' - Beta LP - Finland - 1984
21. MINUTEMEN - 'Big Man Business'
Demo - USA - 1980
22. DISCHARGE - 'Drunk With Power'
'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing' - Clay LP - UK - 1982
23. EMPIRE - 'New Emotion'
'Expensive Sound' - Dinosaur Discs LP - UK - 1981
24. KRUNCH - 'Människors Verk'
'När Varje Dag Är Ett Snesteg' - Spunk cassette - Sweden - 1984
25. THE WANNADIES - 'You And Me Song'
'Be A Girl' - Snap CD - Sweden - 1994
Too poppy and soppy for most of you, yeah, I know, but don't take everything too literally. Here's a live version from Glasto 2000.  That's me in the audience, with the hat.
26. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Työ Kutsuu'
'S/T' - Beta LP - Finland - 1984
27. THE LYNCH MOB - 'Pick Of The Litter'
Flipside of 'Naughty Girl' - Long View 7" - USA - 1981

The Best of Brought To Life - 366

1. PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - 'TV'
'Pelko Ja Viha' - Love LP - Finland - 1979
This motley crew were prone to altering their name every five minutes, but they did have a guitarist called 'Rubberduck Jones' which renders everything else excusable. From their first album as '1980'.
2. THE BLEACH BOYS - 'Chloroform'
Single - Tramp 7" - UK - 1978
'Remember the days when it was warm?' Well, no, not really. Great name for a band though and this is their wonderfully lo-fi debut single from way back when. Glue be damned. 'C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C-Chloroform!' Clearly the inspiration for Queens Of The Stone Age's 'Feel Good Hit Of The Summer'. You read it here first.
3. THE CUNTS - 'My Baby's An Atomic Bomb'
'Look Out!' - Disturbing LP - USA - 1991
The opening track from their second proper album if you disregard compilations and re-issues and stuff. Great sleeve on this one. I'll include some classic B-sides later.
4. THE SINATRAS - 'Teddy Crashes, Blond Dies'
Single - Congressional 7" - USA - 1979
I once thought that the song title was better than the actual song, but it's steadily grown on me over the years and it does have that suitably trashy sound that I know you all love, so here it is, finally, in all its glory. Their sole release (before the obligatory Rave Up retrospective, of course).
5. BREZHNEV - 'Fun'
'Fun' - Brezhnev 7" - Netherlands - 1991
One of those punk-as-fuck Amsterdam bands in the vein of the Gospelfuckers / Agent Orange.

6. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Anna Mennä Vaan'
Demo - Finland - 1981
Recorded at a rehearsal session and available on the 'Tänään Täällä, Huomenna Poissa ' CD.
7. PETE THE MEAT & THE BOYS - 'Look What She's Doing'
Demo - UK - 1978
This fine song (along with their other 2 demos) was actually released on the Stortbeat double CD  'A Musical Collective' in 2004. If it sounds familiar, the guitarist went on to join Eddie and The Hot Rods and took this song with him.
8. STALAG - 'Secrets'
Single - Studio Isis 7" - France - 1981
From Bordeaux. They only released one single but there's demos and live stuff knocking about so I'll see what I can find for a later sampler.
9. PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - 'Helsinki'
'Pelko Ja Viha' - Love LP - Finland - 1979
Another track from 'Pelko'.
10. THE SINATRAS - 'Some Other Boys'
Flipside of 'Teddy Crashes . . .' - Congressional 7" - USA - 1979
A song of teen angst. Sorta reminds me of a sloppier Pagans . . .
11. DIVISION 4 - 'She's Just Not Anybody'
'On The Beat' - Self-released 7" - Australia - 1982
A nice little cover of a Dovers single from 1966.
12. THE CUNTS - 'There Are Electrical Filaments On My Hamburger'
Flipside of 'A Date With Disaster' - Disturbing 7" - USA - 1982
Great title and a Cramps-like intro before it lurches into their own brand of warped '60s psychedelia.
13. NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - 'Mä Vihaan'
Demo - Finland - 1981
Another rehearsal recording from the triple zero guys.
14. THE LATEST - 'Red Lips'
Single - Self-released 7" - USA - 1981
Their sole release. For the flipside go here.
15. THE RAVERS - 'Have I The Right'

'(It's Gonna Be A) Punk Rock Christmas' - Rhino 12" - USA - 1978
There's nothing like a raucous rendition of an old sixties classic.
16. THE SINATRAS - 'Sweet Little French Teens'
Demo - USA - 1979
This pervy sort of song was perfectly acceptable in the '70s. Different times my friend . . .
17. BREZHNEV - 'Baldwig'
'Fun' - Brezhnev 7" - Netherlands - 1991
More prime riffage from their first E.P.  Here's what they look and act like in the flesh.
18. PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - 'Automaatti'
'Pelko Ja Viha' - Love LP - Finland - 1979
A third track from their debut album.
19. THE CUNTS - 'Turn Of Night'
Flipside of 'Apocalyptic Breakfast' - Disturbing 7" - USA - 1984
The a-side has the better title but it just don't sound as good. You can listen to it here.
20. THE BLEACH BOYS - 'You've Got Nothing'
Flipside of 'Chloroform' - Tramp 7" - UK - 1978
'Leave us alone or we'll scratch out your eyes . . .'  Meeow!!!
21. THE RUDIES - 'Macho Man'
Flipside of 'Sherri Goodbye' - Badge 7" - UK - 1980
There's nothing quite like a Village People cover. If you must hear the A-side, go here.
22. STALAG - 'Date Limite De Vente'
Flipside of 'Secrets' - Studio Isis 7" - France - 1981
Though it's actually the title of the record I can confirm that this track really is the B-side. As if anyone actually gives a tiny rat's ass . . .
23. BREZHNEV - 'Cockflakes'
'Fun' - Brezhnev 7" - Netherlands - 1991
A third track with a wonderful title from their debut E.P.
24. THE SINATRAS - 'You Got Me'
Demo - USA - 1979
Some hilarious Elvis-like vocals on the chorus of this one.
25. PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - 'Yhdistytään'
'Pelko Ja Viha' - Love LP - Finland - 1979
A song of unity, a third selection from 'Pelko'.

Demo - Finland - 1981
And a third rehearsal recording from 'Tänään Täällä'.
27. THE CUNTS - 'Penguins Addicted To Molasses'
Flipside of 'We're Going To Crash' - Disturbing 7" - USA - 1980
'Bad luck is my name . . .'  Mine too.
28. PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - 'Natsit Natsit'
'Pelko Ja Viha' - Love LP - Finland - 1979
A fourth track from 'Pelko', and yes, Natsit = Nazis.
29. THE SINATRAS - 'Happy Feeling'
Single - Dining Out 7" - UK - 1980
Just to confuse you all, this is a different Sinatras. This lot were from Leicester, England. Their debut single, which is probably the best thing they ever did.
30. THE POGUES - 'Body Of An American'
'Poguetry In Motion' - Stiff 12" E.P. - UK - 1986
If you're not a Pogues fan but you're very familiar with this song, they used to play it every time there was a copper's funeral on 'The Wire'. And if you've never seen 'The Wire' then it's high time you did.
