The Best of Brought To Life - 209

1. THE STEREOTYPES - 'Countdown' - Hinterland 7" - UK - 1979
We'll start this one with an ultra-rarity from Ilford, Essex. Their sole release. Read more here.
2. THE DIDJITS - 'Captain Ahab' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
Yet another dip into 1990, this time for the Didjits (probably) best album 'Hornet Pinata'. Video here.
3. WHITE CROSS - 'Fascist' - Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
From their debut E.P.  One of my favourite thrash records with one of my favourite record sleeves, resembling some strange creature from the original Outer Limits TV show. Brutal.
4. RATSIA - 'Taidetta' - Johanna LP - Finland - 1979
The opening track from the first Ratsia album.
5. THE SISTERS OF MERCY - 'Walk Away' - Merciful Release 7" - UK - 1984
A bit of gothic gloominess now with the rain coming down and all that.
6. KTMK - 'Pääni' - Barabbas LP - Finland - 1985
The opening track from the debut album '666' by Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio (no wonder they abbreviated it!) Nice rattling bass.
7. THE DIDJITS - 'Killboy Powerhead' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
A second track from 'Hornet Pinata'. The Offspring used to cover this song but hardly did it justice.
8. WHITE CROSS - 'No Straight Edge' - Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
A second track from their debut E.P.
9. KOLLAA KESTÄÄ - 'Johnny Rotten Go-Go' - Poko 7" - Finland - 1978
Back to Finland with one from their debut E.P.
10. SCRATCH ACID - 'She Said' - Rabid Cat MLP - USA - 1984
I used to distribute Rabit Cat records back in the '80s. I remember ripping open a big box and slamming this one on and being pleasantly surprised by the driving post-punk classic that blasted out of the speakers. Sadly, the rest of the record did nothing for me.
11. THOSE FRENCH GIRLS - 'O-O-O-O-O' - Safari LP - UK -1982
A terrible band with one decent song. This is from their self-titled album.
12. THE DIDJITS - 'Long Lone Ranger' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
A third track from 'Hornet Pinata'.
13. WHITE CROSS - 'Speed Of The Presses' - Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
A third from their debut E.P.
14. RATSIA - 'Ole Hyvä Nyt' - Johanna LP - Finland - 1979
And a second from their debut album.
15. THE SISTERS OF MERCY - 'No Time To Cry' - Merciful Release 7" - UK - 1985
Their last single before the line-up (and sound) changed.
16. THE DIDJITS - 'Sweet Sweet Satan' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
Enough of this nonsense, unleash the fireworks and Japanese monster movie footage for a fourth track from 'Hornet Pinata' with the best rock video ever made.  'Takes 10 tons of bullshit for 10 ounces of glory!'
17. WHITE CROSS - 'American Way' -  Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
A fourth from their debut E.P.
18. KOLLAA KESTÄÄ - 'Kännissä Aamulla' - Johanna LP - Finland - 1979
One from their sole album 'Jäähyväiset Aseille'.
19. THE EXECUTE - 'Going Back' - Spook 12" - Japan - 1985
Although I'd feared for 'Criminal Flowers', The Execute's metal transformation was sadly only delayed for one record. This was the only track I could stomach from their 'Blunt Sleazy' E.P.
20. THE DIDJITS - 'Cutting Carol' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
A fifth track from 'Hornet Pinata'.
21. WHITE CROSS - 'Jump Up' - Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
And a fifth from their debut E.P.
22. KTMK - 'Valtiovoimaa' - Barabbas LP - Finland - 1985
A second track from '666'.
23. THE SISTERS OF MERCY - 'First And Last And Always' - Merciful Release LP - UK - 1985
The title track from their debut album of the same name.
24. THE DIDJITS - 'Baby UR A Drag' - Touch And Go LP - USA - 1990
A sixth from 'Hornet Pinata'.
25. WHITE CROSS - 'Suburbanite' - Zero Degree 7" - USA - 1982
And a sixth from their debut E.P.

The third of three singles they released. I reckon the best.

A bit of powerpop perfection now which should have been a massive hit, but wasn't. From 'Playdoh Meathook'.
15. THE COSMIC PSYCHOS - 'Lead Me Astray' - Mr Spaceman 7" - Australia - 1987
A classic single with deep, deep lyrics. 'I see a toaster and I think of you . . .'

The flipside of 'Dame To Blame'.

The Best of Brought To Life - 207

1. THE RAMONES - 'I Just Wanna Have Something To Do' - Sire LP - USA - 1978
The opening track to the Ramones fourth album 'Road To Ruin'.
2. ERAZERHEAD - 'No-One Sees Me Now' - Flicknife LP - UK - 1982
From their debut album 'The Rumble Of The East'. I won't comment about the drum sound.
3. DELTA 5 - 'Try' - Rough Trade 7" - UK - 1980
I couldn't get into their debut single 'Mind Your Own Business' no matter how often John Peel played it. Their second however and this, their third, is a different matter. It had me from the bass line.
4. AGENT ORANGE - 'Mr. Moto' - Posh Boy 12" - USA - 1982
A surf classic from the 'Bitchin' Summer' E.P.
5. THE 2x4's - 'Mechanistic Girl' - Demo - USA - 1980
Available on a nifty little CD from here.
6. FEAR - 'I Am A Doctor' - Restless LP - USA - 1985
Ah, the problematic second Fear album 'More Beer'. Darker . . . meaner . . . the humour was buried deep and many couldn't be arsed to find a spade. Despite all that there was the occasional moment of genius.
7. THE CLAY - 'Future Terror' - Japan Record Company - Japan - 1983
I may as well post the last two tracks from 'Great Punk Hits'. This is the first . . .
8. THE RAMONES - 'Don't Come Close' - Sire LP - USA - 1978
Another track from 'Road To Ruin' which was also a single. Better live version here.
9. ERAZERHEAD - 'Next Stop' - Flicknife LP - UK - 1982
A second track from 'The Rumble Of The East'.
10. DELTA 5 - 'You' - Rough Trade 7" - UK - 1980
A bad relationship from their second single.
11. AGENT ORANGE - 'Breakdown' - Posh Boy 12" - USA - 1982
The only track from 'Bitchin' Summer' which wasn't an instrumental.
12. THE RAMONES - 'I'm Against It' - Sire LP - USA - 1978
A third track from 'Road To Ruin'.
13. ERAZERHEAD - 'Tank Attack' - Flicknife LP - UK - 1982
And a third from 'The Rumble Of The East'.
14. DELTA 5 - 'Innocenti' - Richard Skinner session - UK - 1981
I prefer this one to the album version.
15. FEAR - 'Have A Beer With Fear' - Restless LP - USA - 1985
A second track from 'More Beer'.
16. THE CLAY - 'Militia' - Japan Record Co LP - Japan - 1983
And the second track from 'Great Punk Hits'.
17. THE 2x4's - 'Nakkamichi Boogie' - Demo - USA - 1980
Even the 2x4's were bitten by the surf bug occasionally.
18. THE RAMONES - 'I Don't Want You' - Sire LP - USA - 1978
From 'Road To Ruin' and the flipside of 'Don't Come Close'.
19. ERAZERHEAD - 'I Hate You' - Flicknife LP - UK - 1982
A fourth track from 'The Rumble Of The East'.
20. DELTA 5 - 'Train Song' - Richard Skinner session - UK - 1981
Again, I prefer this one to the album version.
21. AGENT ORANGE - 'Pipeline' - Posh Boy 12" - USA - 1982
The extended version from 'Bitchin' Summer'.
22. THE RAMONES - 'Questioningly' - Sire LP - USA - 1978
A tear-jerkin' moment of genius from 'Road To Ruin'.
23. ERAZERHEAD - 'Moscow' -Flicknife LP - UK - 1982
Yet another track from 'The Rumble Of The East'.
24. DELTA 5 - 'Singing The Praises' - Richard Skinner session - UK - 1981
A third song from the excellent Skinner Session.
25. THE EXECUTE - 'Criminal Flowers' - Hit Parade 7" - Japan - 1984
Judging by their previous release I'd assumed they were turning metal, so imagine my surprise when they churned out this strangely haunting epic.
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. THE EXECUTE - 'Slash' (from 'Criminal Flowers' 7")
27. THE EXECUTE - 'Moron' (from 'Criminal Flowers' 7")

1. 1978 - 'Elektroninen Xtaasi' - Love LP- Finland - 1978
We haven't heard much from Finland for a while so I'll begin this comp with the opening track from the 'Pohjalla' sampler from Love records. If they recorded anything else, I haven't heard of it, though some members were also in Sehr Schnell (same comp) so I'm assuming they were a short-lived band.
