The Best of Brought To Life - 120

1. WILD YOUTH - 'So Messed Up' - Demo - South Africa - 1979
Early Durban punk, captured on the Retro Fresh CD 'A Leopard Never Changes Her Spots'. Watch them playing their single, live, here.
2. MANIC DEPRESSIVES - 'Going Out With The In-Crowd' - Vinyl Solution 7" - USA - 1980
From their 'Silence On The Radio' E.P. which surfaced out of New Orleans.
3. RED ALERT - 'Sell-Out' - Guardian 7" - UK - 1980
From their debut E.P.  Sunderland's finest, even though Steve 'Cast Iron' Smith supports Liverpool.
4. THE MACHINES - 'Evening Radio' - Wax 7" - UK - 1978
Another from the 'True Life' E.P. - video for the title track here.
5. THE CRAVATS - 'Gordon' - Self-released 7" - UK - 1978
The debut single from these Redditch neo-dadaists. Look it up.
6. THE DEPRESSIONS - 'Living On Dreams' - Barn 7" - UK - 1977
Another debut single, not as good as the flipside which I comped last year, but this too a gritty portrayal of life in late-'70s decaying Britain. Or Brighton, in this case.
7. THE CARPETTES - 'How About Me And You' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1977
From their debut E.P. - the third release on Small Wonder.
8. THE DESPERATE BICYCLES - '(I Make The) Product' - Refill 7" - UK - 1978
From their third E.P 'New Cross, New Cross'. I've only ever been to New Cross once, to see The Dwarves in the early '90s. Cracking night.
9. THE KILLJOYS - 'At Night' - Raw LP - UK - 1977
This one's from 'Raw Deal!' See it played live here.
10. CYANIDE - 'I'm A Boy' - Pye 7" - UK - 1978
Second single. A Who cover, but a goodie.
11. THE CUT-OUTS - 'D.I.Y.' - EMI 7" - UK - 1979
Sole single, the epitome of quirkiness.
12. THE DESPERATE BICYCLES - 'Smokescreen' - Refill 7" - UK - 1977
Their debut effort. Not technically an E.P as the same 2 songs appeared on both sides, which did save you the trouble of flipping it.
13. THE CLERKS - 'When The Lights Go Out' - Rok LP - UK - 1979
From the Rok sampler 'Odd Bods, Mods & Sods'.
14. THE DEPRESSIONS - 'Basement Daze' - Barn 7" - UK - 1978
The superior flipside to third single 'Get Out Of This Town'.
15. RED ALERT - 'Border Guards' - Guardian 7" - UK - 1980
Another from their debut E.P. - my first foray into record distribution. I got hold of 3 copies that year for southern mates who couldn't find it anywhere else.
16. THE MANIC DEPRESSIVES - 'Silence On The Radio' - Vinyl Solution 7" - USA - 1980
The title track of their E.P.
17. WILD YOUTH - 'So Trendy' - Demo - South Africa - 1979
Another track from the 'Leopard' CD. Go find it.
18. THE GAY MARINES - 'Reaction Man' - Demo - South Africa - 1981
As is this one, as the CD features Michael Fleck's next band and some solo stuff to boot.
19. THE DESPERATE BICYCLES - 'Cars' - Refill 7" - UK - 1978
Another from 'New Cross, New Cross'.
20. THE CLERKS - 'No Good For Me' - Rok LP - UK - 1979
And another from 'Odd Bods, Mods & Sods'.
21. THE CARPETTES - 'Help, I'm Trapped' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1977
The fastest song they ever did. From their debut E.P.
22. CYANIDE - 'Do It' - Pye 7" - UK - 1978
The flipside to 'I'm A Boy'.
23. THE DESPERATE BICYCLES - 'Skill' - Refill 7" - UK - 1978
The flipside to fourth single 'Occupied Territory'.
24. RED ALERT - 'Third And Final' - Guardian 7" - UK - 1980
About the war we all feared was imminient at the time. Who knew it was all cold war posturing? Nowadays it's a different story . . .
25. THE DEPRESSIONS - 'Messing With Your Heart' - Barn 7" - UK - 1978
Second single. Wasn't so keen on it at the time but it's definitely a grower.
***BONUS TRACKS***

  2. Hello. I was in Wild Youth. This looks great. Where do I get a CD? There is a WY vinyl LP coming out in about 2 months. I will send details closer to the time. MF

    1. Hi Michael, they were just home-made CDs made available for anyone who wanted them, but nobody bothered, though quite a few downloaded the free files before they expired. Yeah, send details when you can and I'll add the link / info. I try to do my bit to keep the music alive!
