The Best of Brought To Life - 086

1. THE SAINTS - 'Know Your Product' - Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
Brass sections were unheard of in punk bands back in '78, other than the odd saxophone, but the Saints weren't strictly a punk band anyway so it hardly mattered. What did matter was that it worked a treat on this, the opening track to their second solid album 'Eternally Yours'.
2. THE UNDERTONES - 'Family Entertainment' - Sire LP - UK - 1979
The Undertones meanwhile stuck to more regular instruments on this, the opening track to their self-titled debut album. Which is powerpop perfection. Fabulous live-for-TV show here.
3. NEW MODEL ARMY - 'Christian Militia' - Abstract LP - UK - 1984
Another opening track to a debut album. This one was called 'Vengeance' by a bunch of scruffy Bradford Cromwellian revolutionaries. Live on 'The Tube' here.
4. FUNERAL ORATION - 'Hell-Age' - Self-released cassette - Netherlands - 1984
From 'The Godsend', their second cassette-only release.
5. DEPRESSION - 'Moderne' - Self-released 7" - France - 1980
From a 3-track 7", their sole release. Nice spooky sleeve. From Bordeaux.
6. THE UNDERTONES - 'Male Model'Sire LP - UK - 1979
Another stomper from their debut LP.
7. THE SAINTS - 'Lost And Found' Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
Another from 'Eternally Yours'. How about an appearance on the popular (at the time) TV show 'Return Of The Saint'?
8. SYDKRAFT - 'Surfway' - EMI 7" - Sweden - 1978
Well, I'm sure everyone surfs in Sweden. Hardly The Barracudas but an entertaining little ditty nonetheless.
9. THE MOVIES - 'Bardot' - RCA LP - USA - 1980
From their fouth album 'India'. Sounds like one of those standard rock bands getting a new wave edge but I'll go with it on this one.
10. THE VARVE - 'Erotic Frigidaire' - Risky 7" - USA - 1982
From their sole 3 tracker. Lene Lovich must surely be some kind of influence.
11. THE UNDERTONES - 'Billy's Third'Sire LP - UK - 1979
Another from their classic debut album.
12. THE SAINTS - 'This Perfect Day' - Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
Another from 'Eternally Yours' which also had both a 7" and 12" release. They even made Top Of The Pops.
13. FUNERAL ORATION - 'Going Further'Self-released cassette - Netherlands - 1984
Another goodie from 'The Godsend'.
14. NEW MODEL ARMY - 'Betcha' - Quiet 7" - UK - 1983
From the 'Bittersweet' 3-track 7". I might just include the title track later.
15. RAPED TEENAGERS - 'Pusrad' - Self-released 7" - Sweden - 1986
One of 14 tracks on their debut E.P. called 'Jag Gillar Blommor. Jag Gillar Träd. Jag Gillar Naturen Som Den Är.' Though short and sweet, it's all very distasteful.
16. THE SAINTS - 'A Private Affair' Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
Another from 'Eternally Yours'.
17. THE UNDERTONES - 'My Perfect Cousin' - Sire 7" - UK - 1980
Sixth single. Cheeky chappie video here.
18. FUNERAL ORATION - 'Get By' - Self-released 12" - Netherlands - 1984
From their first vinyl, the 'Shadowland' 7-track 12".
19. DEPRESSION - 'Debout Papa' Self-released 7" - France - 1980
Another from their excellent 3-tracker.
20. THE SAINTS - 'Run Down'Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
A fifth from 'Eternally Yours'.
21. NEW MODEL ARMY - 'Bittersweet' Quiet 7" - UK - 1983
As hinted at, from their 2nd single.
22. RAPED TEENAGERS - 'Materielkultur'Self-released 7" - Sweden - 1986
Another from 'Jag Gillar Blommor. Jag Gillar Träd. Jag Gillar Naturen Som Den Är.'
23. FUNERAL ORATION - 'Lies For Survival' - Remedy 7" - Netherlands - 1986
From the German-released 'Survival' E.P. which was Funeral Oration at their most mature.
24. THE SAINTS - 'Orstralia' Harvest LP - Australia - 1978
A sixth from 'Eternally Yours'.
25. THE UNDERTONES - 'Get Over You' - Sire 7" - UK - 1979
And finally, the second Undertones single. It was no 'Teenage Kicks' but it bopped along nicely enough. Live version here.
