The Best of Brought To Life - 176

1. THE DARLING BUDS - 'Shame On You' - Epic LP - UK - 1988
Ah, the Darling Buds. 'Pop Said' is perfect pop album, with some of those versions being better that the actual singles. I remember sacrificing a night on the beer to drive a bunch of us up to Newcastle to see them support the Wonderstuff way back when. I was less than amused to find all three of my passengers had just necked a bag of mushies before I picked 'em up. Still, it didn't detract that much from a pop-tastic night, even though the petal-throwing was a bit much.
2. PERDITION - 'Nothing For You' - Reactor 7" - Australia - 1984
The lead track from the 'Intoxicated' E.P. which got a better-sounding 12" release the year after.
3. THE DESCENDENTS - 'I'm Not A Loser' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Last time around I posted a bunch of stuff from 'Milo Goes To College' I was reluctant to leave a few tracks out. I'm putting that right here.
4. THE SHAPES - 'Kids Stuff' - Demo - UK - 1978
Available on the Overground CD 'Songs For Sensible People', though I suspect it may be sold out by now.
5. VICTIMIZE - 'Day I Met God' - Demo - UK - 1979
Available on Bored Teenagers Vol.6 LP or double CD, from here.
6. FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS - 'Oh Your Mammy' - Adventure Family Flexi - Japan - 1987
Another great Japanese title. From the original 'Target' flexi-E.P.  There was a hard vinyl re-issue the following year but I prefer this one.
7. THE AU PAIRS - 'Ideal Woman' - Peel session - UK - 1979
From their first Peel session.
8. THE DARLING BUDS - 'Burst' - Epic LP - UK - 1988
A second track from 'Pop Said' which was also a single.
9. THE DESCENDENTS - 'M16' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
Another from 'Milo Goes To College'.
10. PAUL WEST - 'Lip Gloss Factor' - Blue Rhythm Audio 7" - UK - 1982
The flipside of sole single 'Where's Julie?'
11. THE DEAD AIRMEN - 'Not Only Dresden' - Demo - UK - 1979
From Cheltenham. Also available on Bored Teenagers #6.
12. PERDITION - 'Big Problems' - Reactor LP - Australia - 1985
One from their full-length 'How To teach Your Budgie To Talk'. The relevance escapes me.
13. STIV BATORS - 'It's Cold Outside' - Bomp! 7" - USA - 1979
Stiv's first solo single, a cover of the Pebbles classic by The Choir. R.I.P. Stiv.
14. THE DARLING BUDS - 'You've Got To Choose' - Epic LP - UK - 1988
A third track from 'Pop Said' - and in my humble opinion - their crowning glory.
15. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Catalina' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
And a third from 'Milo Goes To College'.
16. TOXOPLASMA - 'S.O.S.' - Aggressive Rock LP - Germany - 1983
From their debut eponymous LP.
17. THE WEIRDOS - 'What Will You Do?' - Demo - USA - 1981
This one's available on the 'Condor' album or 'Weird World Volume 2'.
18. THE DEAD AIRMEN - 'Search And Destroy' - Demo - UK - 1979
Whereas this one can be found on an unreleased acetate with the Vox Phantoms. And as you won't be able to find that, get Bored Teenagers Vol.6 instead.
19. THE DARLING BUDS - 'It's All Up To You' - Native - UK - 1988
A cracking non-LP single.
20. THE DESCENDENTS - 'Kabuki Girl' - New Alliance LP - USA - 1982
And a fourth from 'Milo Goes To College'.
21. FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS - 'Guy-Jean Tengoku (Do The Guy-Jean Shake)' - Adventure Family 7" - Japan - 1988
This one is from their second E.P. 'The Girl Who Rapes Boys'. Dream on, guys.
22. THE AU PAIRS - 'Dear John' - Peel session - UK - 1980
From their second Peel session, which John made endless quips about.
23. THE SHAPES - 'Let's Go To Planet Skaro' - Demo - UK - 1980
This one's available on the recent Overground LP 'More Songs For Sensible People'.
24. PERDITION - 'I'm Laughing' - Reactor LP - Australia - 1985
The opening track from 'How To teach Your Budgie To Talk'.
25. VICTIMIZE - 'Society's Child' - Demo - UK - 1979
From the same session as 'Day I Met God'. Read all about 'em here.

    1. Jeez Nolti - you're on the ball! I corrected it 5 minutes after publishing and realising the omission!

  2. It doesn't get any better than Milo Goes to College. It is amazing how much better the New Alliance version sounds than the SST version. Not even in the same league.

    1. Good point Lewdd. I guess it wasn't remastered from the original studio tapes, and if it was, it wasn't a good pressing.
