The Best of Brought To Life - 139

1. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'Outbreak Of Vitas Gerulitis' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1990
The mind of Nigel Blackwell is uniquely Northern English, or should I say, just unique! This one really shouldn't be here because of the year but since 'McIntyre, Treadmore and Davitt' is one of the best HMHB albums I just had to include it. Under those circumstances, expect 'Againt The Grain' sometime soon.
2. THE TOY DOLLS - 'Lester Fiddled The Tax Man' - Receiver LP - UK - 1989
Olga's humour on the other hand is more straightforward. One of the best tracks from 'Wakey Wakey!'
3. PEZBAND - 'Stop, Wait A Minute' - Passport 7" - USA - 1978
Enough of this silliness, time for some solid powerpop. One of their early singles.
4. THE NIPS - 'All The Time In The World' - Soho 7" - UK - 1978
First single after shortening their name.
5. WAT TYLER - 'No I.D.' - Rugger Bugger 7" - UK - 1989
This lot were full of it, mostly very short and very silly songs, with the occasional angry tirade thrown in for the hell of it. This is one of the latter. From their debut E.P. 'Contemporary Farming Issues'.
6. THE ZERO BOYS - 'Splish Splash' - Demo - USA -1983
I rather neglected the Zero Boys first time around so here's one that appeared on the 'History Of' tape and the 'Blood Is Good' bootleg'.
7. THE EX - 'Human Car' - Ex 7" - Netherlands - 1980
From the 'All Corpses Smell The Same' E.P. One of their earlier, punkier efforts.
8. THE HEAD - 'Nothing To Do In A Town Like Leatherhead' - Ellie Jay 7" - UK - 1980
I've been there and they were right. Organ-driven D.I.Y. pop. Their sole single at the time although Detour have since bashed out a retrospective album and single.
9. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'Prag Vec At The Melkweg' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1990
'D' ya wanna swap a hundred spandex overcoats for a mental age of a haversack?' Priceless.
10. THE COLD - 'Thanks A Lot' - Top Pop 7" - USA - 1981
More organ-driven powerpop, from New Orleans this time. More to do than in Leatherhead, I guess. The flipside of third single 'Never Alone'.
11. HOT WATER - 'Get Lost' - Duff 7" - USA - 1979
Second single. Not sure the sax was needed, but why not?
12. THE TOY DOLLS - 'Blaze Of The Borough' - Receiver LP - UK - 1989
A second from 'Wakey Wakey!' Setting fire to a pub? Heresy! Though it's not the only pub fire insurance scam that I've come across in my time.
13. THE ZERO BOYS - 'Drive-In' - Demo - USA - 1983
Another track from 'History Of' / 'Blood Is Good'.
14. WAT TYLER - 'Hops And Barley' - Rugger Bugger 7" - UK - 1989
Another from 'Contemporary Farming Issues'. All hail the beer!
15. THE KRYPTON TUNES - 'Limited Vision' - Lightning 7" - UK - 1978
Nice guitar work. Second single.
16. THE COLD - 'Mesmerized' - Top Pop 7" - USA - 1981
Another second single. They had Ellen DeGeneres' brother on bass, y' know?
17. THE HEAD - 'Middle Class Revolution' - Withdrawn 7" - UK - 1981
Read all about them here.
18. THE NIPS - 'Vengeance' - Soho 7" - UK - 1979
The superior flipside of 'Gabrielle'. Love on one side, hate on the other.
19. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'Let's Not' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1990
A third from 'McIntyre'. But is the 'On The Road' that the song refers to the Jack Kerouac novel or the AA Handbook you could buy in the '70s? We need to know?
20. HOT WATER - 'Bird's Eye View' - Duff 7" - USA - 1979
The flipside of 'Get Lost'.
21. THE QUADS - 'U.F.O.' - Big Bear 7" - UK - 1980
Mods singing about aliens? I've heard everything now! Third single.
22. THE HEAD - 'No Girls For Billy' - Withdrawn 7" - UK - 1981
The other side of the withdrawn 7".
23. THE TOY DOLLS - 'No Particular Place To Go' - Receiver LP - UK - 1989
Chuck Berry never sounded so good.
24. THE ZERO BOYS - 'Blood's Good' - Demo - USA - 1983
I'm just guessing at the year, y' know?
25. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'Our Tune' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1990
And a fourth from 'McIntyre'.
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. THE COLD - 'Never Alone'
27. THE ZERO BOYS - 'I'm Bored'
28. THE COLD - 'Wake Up'
29. THE TOY DOLLS - 'One Night In Moscow (And We'll Be Russian Home)'
