The Best of Brought To Life - 131

1. THE DWARVES - 'Lick It' - UBIK 7" - USA - 1988
The bridge between their older garage sound and their new punk sound was this nasty little single (their first).
2. WIRE - 'Two People In A Room' - Harvest LP - UK - 1979
Wheras by their third album '154' Wire had almost completely ditched their punk sound (or 'evolved beyond it').
3. LOW LIFE - 'White Lightning' - Airout 7" - Canada - 1979
One from their sole E.P. 'Leaders'.
4. MENACE - 'Insane Society' - Illegal 7" - UK - 1977
The flipside of debut single 'Screwed Up'. Here's a modern day version.
5. PUNCTURE - 'Mucky Pup' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1977
The first release on Small Wonder with an interesting choice of notes by the bass player.
6. THE KILLERS - 'Edge City' - Huh? Oh! 7" - USA - 1981
Their only single, though there was a 12" E.P and an album which I never found. Anyone got 'em?
7. THE LEYTON BUZZARDS - '19 And Mad' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1978
Another one on Small Wonder, and the debut by these East End 'Erberts.
8. THE SECT - 'A Free England' - Insect 7" - UK - 1986
Debut single and the best thing they ever did.
9. THE PROLES - 'Soft Ground' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1979
A bit lighter than their split E.P with The Condemned which is probably why it ended up being their last release. You can, however, get more of their recordings on the comps that Grand Theft Audio and Overground bashed out in the '90s.
10. FUNERAL - 'Bloody Hands' - Azra 12" - USA - 1981
Another band with a Grand Theft Audio release. This is from their 5-track 12" E.P.
11. MENACE - 'I'm Civilised' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1978
Another Menace B-side. This one accompanied the mighty 'G.L.C.'
12. THE CULT MANIAX - 'Blitz' - Elephant Rock 7" - UK - 1982
I sorta dismissed this lot back in the day after their underwhelming debut E.P., but this second effort was much better and they turned out to be a cracking live band too.
13. THE SCREAMING DEAD - 'This Is The End Of The World' - Recreational Tapes - UK - 1982
From their 'Children Of The Boneyard Stones' cassette when they were still playing fast stuff.
14. THE MODERNETTES - 'Celebrity Crack-Up' - Quintessence 12" - Canada - 1980
One from the 'Teen City' E.P. I've resisted posting the title track so far but I too may crack before this sampler is done.
15. THE DWARVES - 'Eat You To Survive' - Nasty Gash 12" - USA - 1988
After their garage rock / psyche beginnings The Dwarves had obviously heard GG Allin and the Scumfucs and promptly careered off down the same path, only they didn't manage to kill themselves (which is a surprise to many). This was from the 'Toolin' For A Warm Teabag' E.P.
16. SHRAPNEL - 'Way Out World' - Salute 7" - USA - 1981
The flipside of disappointing second single 'Go Cruisin'.
17. MENACE - 'Carry No Banners' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1979
From the 'Final Vinyl' 7" (which it wasn't).
18. THE PIRANHAS - 'Jilly' - Attrix 7" - UK - 1979
The superior flipside of debut single 'Coloured Music' from this Brighton-based band led by 'Boring' Bob Grover.
19. FUNERAL - 'Waiting For The Bomb Blast' - Peace Is Shit 7" - USA - 1981
From their 7" E.P.  From Long Beach, Southern California.
20. THE SCREAMING DEAD - 'Nuclear Apocalypse' - Recreational Tapes - UK - 1982
Another from the 'Children Of The Boneyard Stones' cassette.
21. THE CULT MANIAX - 'Lucy Looe' - Elephant Rock 7" - UK - 1982
The flipside of 'Blitz'. All those in favour of loose women . . .
22. THE ENGLISH SUBTITLES - 'Sweat' - Small Wonder 7" - UK - 1979
One from the flipside of 'Time Tunnel'. One of the first things I learned to play on my geetar.
23. THE DWARVES - 'Free Cocaine' - Nasty Gash 12" - USA - 1988
Another from 'Toolin' For A Warm Teabag'. 'Gimme the things that drive me insane, like teenage women and free cocaine . . .'
24. WIRE - 'The 15th' - Harvest LP - UK - 1979
Another from '154'.
25. THE MODERNETTES - 'Teen City' - Quintessence 12" - Canada - 1980
There . . . I cracked.
