The Best of Brought To Life - 111

1. THE SPERMBIRDS - 'My God Rides A Skateboard' - X-Mist 7" - Germany - 1986
From the 'Don't Forget The Fun' split E.P.  German band with an American singer.
2. THE BEAU NASTIES - 'Between Open Doors' - Top Hole 7" - Netherlands - 1982
A nice bit of ska. Their sole release.
3. NO WAY - 'TV Pox' - Our Own 7" - UK - 1978
From the flipside of sole single 'Breaking Point'. More tracks available on the Bored Teenagers comps.
4. UNICEF - 'Käkimassaa' - Johanna 7" - Finland - 1983
Another sole single. Sounds like a manic cover of Skrewdriver's 'You're So Dumb' but my slim grasp of Finnish cannot confirm it.
5. DIE WALTER 11 - 'Kaiserslautern' - X-Mist 7" - Germany - 1986
The other band from the 'Don't Forget The Fun' E.P. A good singalong number. Possibly a football song. Let me know.
6. Y TRWYNAU COCH - 'Merched Dan 15' - Recordiau Sgwar 7" - UK - 1978
From Wales, from their debut E.P. Welsh is a deliberately obscure language designed to confound the English. Now that we have Google translate I can confirm that these 'Red Noses' were singing about girls under 15. What they were saying about them confounds me.
7. THE BRAINEATERS - 'I, Braineater' - Wrong World 7" - Canada - 1979
The opening track from their sole E.P.  Quite menacing.
8. THE TEENAGE PhD's - 'Eat The Poor' - Erectile 7" - USA - 1980
As above. A nice bit of lo-fi.
9. THE RAMONES - 'Eat That Rat' - Sire LP - USA - 1986
Worse than eating the poor? From their 10th album 'Animal Boy'.
10. NO PIGS - 'Broken Promises' - Nozem 7" - Netherlands - 1984
Their debut E.P. wasn't a great recording but it remains a much better release than their later 12" and album.
11. CITY X - 'Coverboy' - Irmgardz 7" - Denmark - 1981
From their 'Ude Af Drift!' E.P.  Nasty indeed.
12. HELEN KELLER - 'Rats With Cocks This Long' - Demo - USA - 1978
It's no 'Surfin' With Steve And E.D. Amin' but, hell, what is? Does anyone have the 'Bonus Was A Killer' 7"?
13. THE REBELS - 'Tell Me Why' - Demo - UK - 1978
An old Sunderland band featuring future members of The Angelic Upstarts, Red Alert and Red London. This appeared on the posthumous 'Digging Up The Dom' E.P.
14. DISORDER - '1984' - Durham Book Centre 7" - UK - 1980
Another old Sunderland band. From the flipside of second 7" 'Reality Crisis'.
15. CRIME - 'Johnny Come Home' - Punk Products 7" - UK - 1978
And this lot came from just down the road in Seaham. The vastly superior flipside of terrible sole single 'Generation Gap'. What were they thinking?
16. THE TEENAGE PHD's - 'Punk Rock Is Dead' - Erectile 7" - USA - 1980
It would have been if it all sounded like this! Another track from their sole E.P.
17. LIZ & LIZARDS - 'Kujan Kuningas' - Poko 7" - Finland - 1980
Some Finnish ska now. Their debut single.
18. THE SODS - 'Police' - Medley LP - Denmark - 1979
From the generally disappointing 'Minutes To Go' album.
19. THE RAMONES - 'Crummy Stuff' - Sire LP - USA - 1986
Another from 'Animal Boy'.
20. NO PIGS - 'Money' - Nozem 7" - Netherlands - 1984
Another from their 6-track E.P.
21. THE SPERMBIRDS - 'She's Got V.D.' - X-Mist 7" - Germany - 1986
Another from 'Don't Forget The Fun'. A bit juvenile, but what the hell.
22. Y TRWYNAU COCH - 'Byw Ay Arian Fy Rhieni' - Recordiau Sgwar 7" - UK - 1978
Another from the 'Merched Dan 15' E.P.
23. THE NUCLEAR SOCKETS - 'Pretenders Zeal' - Subversive 7" - UK - 1980
From their debut 'Honour Before Glory' E.P. One of the first things I learned to play on my guitar.
24. UNICEF - '251' - Johanna 7" - Finland - 1983
From the flipside of 'Kakimassaa'.
25. THE RAMONES - 'Something To Believe In' - Sire LP - USA - 1986
A third from 'Animal Boy' which was also a charity parody. How many 'stars' can you name?
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. Y TRWYNAU COCH - 'Mynd I'r Capel Mewn Levis'
27. THE TEENAGE PHD's - 'Too Bored To Die'

    1. I was expecting a classic but there were very few standouts for me. My standards are high, but often at odds with common sense or popular opinion. Too many magic mushrooms, I guess!
