The Best of Brought To Life - 194

1. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'Busy Little Market Town' - Demo - UK - 1985
One of the debut album out-takes which finally saw the light of day on the1988 re-release. One of the Trumpton themes, I'm sure.
2. THE LEWD - 'Polluted Brain' - ICI LP - USA - 1982
I've already covered Side 1 of their legendary album 'American Wino'. Side 2 meanwhile was recorded Live at Target Studios in 'Frisco and here's the opening track.
3. LAMA - 'Tänään Kotona' - Johanna LP - Finland - 1982
Revisiting Lama's eponymous debut now, but this time Side 1.
4. THE SUBHUMANS - 'Out Of Line' - Friends LP - Canada - 1981
Compilation of the week is 'Vancouver Independence' from '81. But can anyone explain the significance of the album sleeve picture?
5. GIRLS AT OUR BEST - 'Go For Gold' - Happy Birthday 7" - UK - 1981
Their fourth and final single. 'They've got guitars, they drink in bars, they come from Mars'. See if you can guess who they're singing about?
6. THE F-MODELS - 'It's Not Right' - T.M.I. LP - USA - 1982
From a relatively obscure compilation of bands from Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio called 'T.M.I. 015'.
7. LAMA - '105B' Johanna LP - Finland - 1982
A second track from side 1 of Lama's eponymous debut.
8. THE LEWD - 'Fight'ICI LP - USA - 1982
The second track from side 2 of 'American Wino'. Visuals here.
9. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'God Gave Us Life' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1985
This one opened their original debut album 'Back In The D.H.S.S.'  It's based on Paul's letter to the Ephesians but argues against him with modern day vitriol.
10. THE NO - 'God Damn It' - Repellant LP - USA - 1985
From their 'Pick Your No's' album. From Florida.
11. THE METROS - 'In With The Crowd'Friends LP - Canada - 1981
A second track from 'Vancouver Independence'.
12. THE FLYS - 'Looking For New Hearts' - EMI LP - UK - 1979
And one from 'Waikiki Beach Refugees' with a very memorable guitar line.
13. THE DROOGS - 'J.K.O.'Friends LP - Canada - 1981
A third track from 'Vancouver Independence'.
14. LAMA - Osmo 'Älä Onnu'Johanna LP - Finland - 1982
A third track from side 1 of Lama's eponymous debut.
15. THE LEWD - 'Mobile Home'ICI LP - USA - 1982
And the third track from side 2 of 'American Wino'. 'I think I'm an all-around American, on my 18th birthday my daddy gave me a guuuun'.
16. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'The Best Things In Life' - Probe Plus LP - UK - 1987
One from second album 'Back (Again) In The D.H.S.S.'
17. GIRLS AT OUR BEST - 'Politics' - Gap 7" - UK - 1980
Second single. Not as sweet as the vocals might suggest.
18. OLYMPIC SIDEBURNS - '7 And 7 Is' - Epitaph LP - USA - 1985
One from their eponymous debut album. What would Arthur Lee think?
19. LAMA - 'Olen Homo'Johanna LP - Finland - 1982
A fourth track from side 1 of Lama's eponymous debut.
20. THE LEWD - 'Cold And Numb'ICI LP - USA - 1982
And the fourth track from side 2 of 'American Wino'.
21. HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - 'I Hate Nerys Hughes'Probe Plus LP - UK - 1985
Another one from 'Back In The D.H.S.S. suggesting that this Liver Bird was not how they wanted to be represented locally.
22. MUSTA PARAATI - 'Rakas Sä Ehdit Vielä Mukaan' - Johanna LP - Finland - 1984
This one appeared on second album 'Käärmmet', which I'm assuming is a boot sale of some description?
23. THE FLYS - 'Civilisation' - EMI 7" - UK - 1978
From the flipside of 'Love And A Molotov Cocktail'.
24. THE B-SIDES - 'Underground Radio Stars'Friends LP - Canada - 1981

  1. Just come across your blog, absolutely great, some records I have, some I knew about and then there's gems I don't know. Wish I had come across you sooner before the first 136 links had expired. Maybe you could add one or two of the older songs into new posts :-) David

    1. Thanks David, it's the hazards of using Zippyshare I guess. The links expire if not downloaded at least once every month but it's the easiest one to use. There's sadly not enough interest to keep the old links alive and I don't have the time to re-up them all as I only have my limited library time to do the blog. I just hope you enjoy the new posts as there's a wealth of stuff still to be shared, and if YOU have time I guess a lot of the older tracks can be found on YouTube, Killed By Death and all the other great blogs out there!

    2. I'll certainly have a look, your listings give a great starting point for a search. I didn't realise there was that much up on Youtube, Thanks, David
