The Best of Brought To Life - 159

1. LIP CREAM - 'Sin' - Selfish LP - Japan - 1989
Their eponymous album was the last Lip Cream album of the '80s. A little generic perhaps, but it started well with this one.
2. OI POLLOI - 'Punx 'n' Skins' - Oi! LP - UK - 1987
Oi Polloi were a strange entity. Often they came across more of an anarcho band than an Oi! band but their hearts were in the right place and Deek Allan is one of the friendliest characters you're ever likely to meet. This is from 'Unite And Win!'
3. COITUS INT. - 'Run To The Station' - Rock Against Records - Netherlands - 1980
The opening track from their debut 'Dead Excitement' E.P.
4. THE SUBJECTS - 'Leather In The Park' - Civil Antidote 12" - USA - 1982
Their sole 12" E.P. was incredibly entertaining. Loads of influences, but it's hard to pick a favourite track so you'll probably get them all.
5. SEVENTEEN - 'Bank Holiday Weekend' - Vendetta 7" - UK - 1979
The superior flipside of sole single 'Don't Let Go' but there's also a Vinyl Japan retrospective if this track happens to grab you.
6. TREBLE X - 'What To Look For' - Rock Shop 7" - UK - 1983
Their first of two singles. From Portsmouth way.
7. G.I.S.M. - 'Endless Blockades For The Pussyfooter' - Dogma 12" - Japan - 1983
G.I.S.M. started out as the most incredible band in Japan but, like many, they finally succumbed to the evil temptations of metal. On 'Detestation' you get both punk and metal in tandem but this track, once covered by Poison Idea, showcases the troubled genius of mad vocalist Sakevi. 'Where's your new neighbour? What's for tea? I dunno!'
8. THE ORBITS - 'Make The Rules' - No.1 7" - USA - 1980
The title track of their sole E.P.  Re-issued on Sing Sing.
9. KAOS ROCK - 'Basta Basta' - Cramps 7" - Italy - 1980
Their first single. There's another single and an album but this is as good as it gets.
10. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'The Original Mixed-Up Kid' - Fried Egg 7" - UK - 1980
From Brighton. No doubt the name has caused endless confusion. And I was intentionally getting Brighton mixed up with Bristol . . . (sighs) . . .nobody gets me!!!
11. THE DEAD BEATS - 'Choose You' - Red Rhino 7" - UK - 1980
From their sole 3-track single.
12. THE SUBJECTS - 'Augie' - Civil Antidote 12" - USA - 1982
Another track from their E.P.  'Shoot 'em up, bang bang!' How much quirk do you need?
13. THE TONIX - 'Sex Junk' - Glass LP - UK - 1981
From 'The Wonderful World Of Glass Volume 1' comp.
14. THE STARJETS - 'It Really Doesn't Matter' - Epic 7" - UK - 1979
Another single from the Starjets 1979 roster.
15. G.I.S.M. - 'Death Agonies And Screams' - Dogma 12" - Japan - 1983
Another goodie from 'Detestation'.
16. THE ORBITS - 'Phenomenal World' - No.1 7" - USA - 1980
Another from their sole E.P.
17. I'M SO HOLLOW - 'Dreams To Fill The Vacuum' - Hollogram 7" - UK - 1980
How about some post-punk witha sci-fi tinge?
18. THE DEADBEATS - 'Oh No' - Red Rhino 7" - UK - 1980
A strange one from the flipside of 'Choose You'.
19. THE SUBJECTS - 'Laugh' - Civil Antidote 12" - USA - 1982
A third track from their excellent E.P.
20. TANGO BRIGADE - 'Donegal' - Epic 7" - UK - 1981
This one-off was just the Starjets under a new name while they were in the process of breaking up.
21. OI POLLOI - 'Scum' - Oi! LP - UK - 1987
Another stomper from 'Unite And Win!'
22. G.I.S.M. - 'Anthem' - Dogma 12" - Japan - 1983
And a third from 'Detestation'.
23. COITUS INT. - 'On The Escalator' - Rock Against Records - Netherlands - 1980
Another track from 'Dead Excitement'.
24. VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Unofficial Secrets' - Fried Egg 7" - UK - 1980
The flipside of 'Mixed Up Kid'.
25. THE PRESS - 'I'm Gonna Shoot The Deejay' - Utopia Music 7" - Netherlands - 1980
Their hilarious debut single. Video here.
***BONUS TRACKS***
26. THE SUBJECTS - 'High Life'
27. THE STARJETS - 'Watch Out'
28. G.I.S.M. - 'Aahb'
29. THE SUBJECTS - 'I'm Mechanical'

  2. Hi Bruce, glad someone actually reads the damn blog! However, I must sigh the biggest sigh anyone's ever sighed as, yet again, my pathetic attempt at humour flies well wide of the mark. The track is 'The Original Mixed-Up Kid' - so I was intentionally getting Brighton 'mixed-up' with Bristol! Geddit? . . . I'll get me coat . . .
