The Best of Brought To Life - 048

1. DIE TOTEN HOSEN - 'Spiel Mir Das Lied Von Tod / Es Ist Vorbei' - Totenkopf/Virgin 12" - Germany - 1984
From their one and only Peel session, released on the 'Liebesspieler' 12". During this session they took advantage of the fact that no-one associated with the John Peel show spoke any German, so they recorded a very rude song 'Hofgarten' and when Peel found out how vulgar it was he refused to play their records any more as their actions could have got him taken off the air permanently. Not that the BBC were ever any good at spotting this sort of thing.
2. X-RAY SPEX - 'Oh Bondage Up Yours' - Virgin 7" - UK - 1977
The debut single. Here they are performing it from the German documentary film 'Punk In London'.
3. THE CRAMPS - 'Human Fly' - Vengeance 7" - USA - 1978
Another debut single. The most appropriate video is here. 'I got a garbage brain, it's drivin' me insane, and I don't like your ride, so push that pesticide'.
4. THE DEFENDANTS - 'Impatient Outpatient' - Demo - UK - 1978
Here's a rare one from Coventry band The Defendants. Listen out for some interesting special effects.
5. THE WIPERS - 'Over The Edge' - Brain Eater LP - USA - 1983
After the somewhat meandering and space age second album 'Youth Of America' the third Wipers album was a little more back to basics. This is the excellent title track.
6. THE GONADS - 'I Lost My Love (To A UK Sub)' - Secret 7" - UK - 1982
From the 'Pure Punk For Row People' E.P.  Half-hearted 'ooligan punk with Garry Bushell on the mike. 'Avin' a laugh and 'avin' a say.
7. NEW HEARTS - 'Revolution, What Revolution?' - Peel Session - UK - 1977
Another Peel session track, this time from The New Hearts who eventually went on to become Secret Affair.
8. TOY LOVE - 'Bride Of Frankenstein' - DeLuxe 7" - New Zealand - 1980
Third single. Yee-haw! 'I want a bride he said, make me a bride he said, from one who died he said, sewn up, so fine, Bride of Frankenstein'. And you'll be elated to know there's a video.
9. THE CARDIAC KIDZ - 'Future Shock' - Demo - USA - 1979
Available on the Rave Up album 'Get Out! San Diego Punk 1978-81'. They played 48 gigs with 95 bands. Sounds like a Cramps song. Here's some (much) later footage.
10. X-RAY SPEX - 'I Am A Cliché'Virgin 7" - UK - 1977
The B-side of 'Oh Bondage Up Yours'. R.I.P. Polly.
11. DIE TOTEN HOSEN - 'Reisefieber' - Totenkopf/Virgin 12" - Germany - 1984
Another from the Peel session.
12. THE CRAMPS - 'What's Behind The Mask?' - IRS LP - USA - 1980
From the long-awaited debut album 'Songs The Lord Taught Us'.
13. THE WIPERS - 'Messenger' Brain Eater LP - USA - 1983
Another goodie from 'Over The Edge'.
14. THE VON TRAP FAMILY - 'Dreaming Again' - Woronzow 7" - UK - 1980
First release on Nick Saloman's Woronzow label; produced by future Bevis Frond/Outskirts of Infinity guitarist, Bari Watts. Their only release.
15. LES KAMBRONES - 'Douce France' - Mix 7" - France - 1983
From their debut 3-tracker. Here's something from later in their career.
16. X-RAY SPEX - 'The Day The World Turned Dayglo' - EMI 7" - UK - 1978
Second single. TOTP performance here.
17. AAPELI KISSALA & ANTIPATIA - 'Pikadon' - Propaganda 7" - Finland - 1981
Finnish rockabilly? And why not? They also had a track on Propaganda's 1981 sampler E.P. if I remember rightly.
18. NEW HEARTS - 'Here Come The Ordinaries'Peel Session - UK - 1977
Another from the excellent Peel session.
19. THE WIPERS - 'When It's Over' - Park Avenue LP - USA - 1981
Well, despite the length of some of the tracks I can't leave out their second album 'Youth Of America. Sounds pretty epic.
20. DIE TOTEN HOSEN - 'Til To The Bitter End' - Totenkopf/Virgin 12" - Germany - 1984
And a third track from the Peel session. The rude one isn't that great.
21. THE CARDIAC KIDZ - 'Mary Young' - Demo - USA - 1978
Adorable pop-punk by kids who had barely learned to play. That's what it was all about, kidz.
22. THE DEFENDANTS - 'Live Entertainment'Demo - UK - 1978
Another great Defendants demo.
23. X-RAY SPEX - 'I Am A Poseur' - EMI 7" - UK - 1978
The B-side of 'The Day The World Turned Dayglo'.
24. THE CRAMPS - 'I Was A Teenage Werewolf'IRS LP - USA - 1980
Another track from 'Songs The Lord Taught Us'.
25. THE WIPERS - 'Youth Of America'Park Avenue LP - USA - 1981
And finally, the title track from their second album. Most definitely the only 10-minute-plus song you'll hear on these BTL samplers.
***BONUS TRACK***
