Lead track from G.I. their sole studio LP. Produced by Joan Jett. More oooOOOooos. 'Standing in line we're aberrations, defects in a defect's mirror, we've been here all the time,
real fixations, hidden deep in the furor, and what we do is secret, secret!'
3. LEFT HAND DRIVE - 'I Know Where I Am' - Bancrupt 7" - UK - 1978
This bunch were from Northampton. This was the B-side of their second single 'Who Said Rock 'n' Roll Is Dead?'
4. ED GEIN'S CAR - 'Bars And Brick' - Ed Gein's Car LP - USA - 1985
Lead track from their sole studio LP 'Making Dick Dance'. Ed Gein's actual car was auctioned in 1958. The vehicle, used by Gein to bring his corpses back home, went for 760 dollars to fairground operator Bunny Gibbons who charged customers 25 cents to examine it. What for is anyone's guess.
5. UK SUBS - 'I Couldn't Be You' - Gem LP - UK - 1979
First band I ever saw live was the Subs. Great they were too. This track is from the first album 'Another Kind Of Blues' with some cool harmonica which you rarely heard on punk records. Live footage from 'Punk Can Take It' here.
6. THE ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE - 'Streets Of London' - WXYZ 7" - UK - 1981
Debut single, a cover of the Ralph McTell classic. I remember seeing this lot supporting the Damned in 1981. Almost ended in a riot with fire extinguishers being unleashed on the crowd and everything! Great fun. They came across as a mean bunch of bikers but I wasn't sure whether it was all staged for dramatic effect or not. I'm assuming Animal was the template for Danny the Drug Dealer in 'Withnail And I?'
7. PADELUUN & DIE PUBLICITY BAND O.N.M. - 'Nazis Are No Fun' - Rondo 7" - Germany - 1980
Political satire from this performance artist and film maker from Düsseldorf. It was probably meant to lampoon many punk rockers who seemed to have a fixation with swastikas in the late '70s. Or something.
8. UK SUBS - 'Tomorrow's Girls' - Gem 7" - UK - 1979
3rd single. The sleeve features Sindy who ran the fan club at the time. She was Paul Slack's sister, y'know? Real name was Joanne but we all preferred Sindy.
9. THE BARRACUDAS - 'I Can't Pretend' - Zonophone 7" - UK - 1981
5th single. It's no 'Summer Fun' but then what is? Nowadays it sounds like this.
10. THE ADVERTS - 'Gary Gilmore's Eyes' - Anchor 7" - UK - 1977
The follow up single to 'One Chord Wonders'. First heard it on TOTP to which my dad exclaimed 'what's this rubbish?' Of course he was wrong. Here's what we were watching.
11. THE ANEMIC BOYFRIENDS - 'Fake I.D.' - Red Sweater 7" - USA - 1981
Second single from this mob who were from Anchorage, Alaska. John Peel loved 'Bad Girls In Love' but this is the winner for me.
12. THE SKIDS - 'Sweet Suburbia' - Virgin 7" - UK - 1978
Second single with that unmistakeable Stuart Adamson (RIP) guitar. Dodgy live video here.
13. STARSHOOTER - 'Accident' - Pathé Marconi LP - France - 1978
My favourite track from their first LP. The singer was disappointingly called Kent Hutchinson which didn't sound very French at all, however, it turns out that he also wrote comics and it was more like a pen name. His real name was Hervé Despesse. That's more like it.

4th single. Yet another anthem. Worst hat in the history of punk?

4th single again. 'Life's short, don't make a mess of it, to the ends of the earth, you'll look for sense in it, no chances, no plans, I'll smash the windows of my box, I'll be a madman, it's no time to be 21, to be anyone'. TOTP here.

From the sessions recorded for the Al Pacino film 'Cruising'. Available on many a bootleg. 'Livin' in a fury, life's kinda blurry, dyin' in a hurry, stories kinda lurid, no time to worry, gonna hang the jury, broke up kinda early, all the bribes are workin'.'

Am I posting this merely for the title? Maybe. This was effectively the same band that did the Bobby Soxx 7" and is available along with a live show on a LTD release LP on Brain Transplant records. Although it's not a proper video, the picture here is great!
